Google Nexus One Super Phone Shows Salient Use of "Sentience"?
Jul 12th
The Nexus One Google phone has received fab first impressions from reviewers and is will be heavily promoted on the web. Google studies showed that wireless buyers were influenced by online research.
We are bit confused by one of the Nexus One web banners. We understood almost all of the banners that illustrate a feature using only two or three haiku-ish words in the headline, followed by “Introducing the Nexus One with” followed by the feature – except for one.
During the press conference, Google said that it wants to keep the super phone buying process simple. Let’s look at the text:

Still Paying to Make Long Distance Calls?
Jun 25th
I think we’re on the brink of an era in which the term “long distance” with regard to phone service will be a thing of the past. Why do I say this? Cell phones let you call anywhere in the US. Only thing you pay extra for is international calls. If you use Skype, it’s a similar thing. Many VOIP phone services don’t charge extra for long distance either: Phone Power, Ooma, & Vonage to name a few… And then there is even Google Voice.
For this post I want to focus on Google Voice. You no longer need an invitation to hop on the band-wagon. Just click on the link and set up an account. If you already have a Google account, just sign in with that to start your Google Voice account.
Just what is Google Voice? It’s not a substitute for your current phone company, but it can offer you a lot of things that your current phone company charges you for… like free long distance calls (over your phone).
When you set up your account, you can pick your own phone number. Next you set up what phones you want the Google Voice number to ring to. For example: cell phones, home phones, work phones… (You can give this number out to people rather than your home number or vice versa.) You can set up your own voice mail, block calls, and listen to your voice mail from your inbox. Cool? Well, if those features aren’t enticing to you, the ability to make free long distance calls should. This is how you make one. Log onto your Google Voice account. Input the number you would like to call and which phone you would like to make the call with (home, cell, work). Google voice will call the phone you selected, you pick up, and wait for Google Voice to connect you. Easy. Oh, and they have really inexpensive international rates too.

I told you– They (Google) are taking over the world.
Activate Google Voice Best Voice IP Phone System From Outside USA
Jun 24th
I’ve been promising my readers on how to get Google Voice if you’re outside the US. Yes , I’ve managed to get Google Voice working plain though I’m located outside of the United States . So before we get into the complete how-to , lets take a look what is Google Voice all about . Google Voice is actually hybrid VOIP Service provided by Google , which allows you to make free calls any number in the US and it allows you to send and receive text messages without paying a dime or a cent. This is ideal if you have lots of friends in the US or if your family members are in US and you want to call them for free over the Internet. What is different compared to Skype and other VOIP Services is that you get a fixed number (and you’re allowed to select your own number). Now lets get into the how-to. First of all , you’ll need a Google Voice invite , you may request for an invite by simply clicking here. Its recommended that you use your Google Account or your Gmail account. Next up is wait for an invite from Google. It can take anywhere from 4 weeks to few month. Again its completely random , you may or may not get it. It depends on your luck.
Well i had few google voice invites, click here to see if any left for you.
Lets take a look at the prerequisites , shall we :-
- A Google Voice Invitation (if you don’t have one , feel free to apply – there is a link on this page or you may simply visit Google Voice to get an invite)
- VPN Service to US or HTTPS/HTTP proxy to USA (If you don’t have it , don’t worry – just continue to read).
- A fast connection (preferably 512Kbps downlink)
- Lots of patience and a cup of tea or coffee !
(Do make sure that your wife/girlfriend/dog is not going to bug you while you’re doing this ritual
)
Okay , once you’ve got it (Congratulations). You may want to access the link but then you’ll get an error which says that its only valid if you’re in the United States.
Yes thats right. This is where most of us are caught (You may ask – how am I going to get a Google Voice number if I don’t live in the US )You need to have an existing phone line before you’re allowed to use Google Voice. Fear not there are couple of ways you can get a US Incoming phone number. Its bit tricky though. I would highly recommend you to look for a VPN Service which gives you a US IP (as I’ve described earlier) , or if you have friends in the States – ask them to sign it up for you on behalf of you. Its just that you need to have a valid US address and a valid US IP Address. The program would then work anywhere in the world , its just that during initial sign up process. You’ll have to get a US IP and Adress. Anyway there are 2 VOIP Service which offers free Incoming US Number (and which I’ve tried) , which are SIPGate and IPKall . I’ve personally used both of them and I prefer IPKall over SIPGate. Its because for us , those who are in India. The latency and the ping time to IPKall servers are lower compared to SIPGate. Anyway its up to you , both of them do a fine job. Keep in mind that you’ll be using this number in order for google voice to work. Generally Google Voice works this way , when you dial a number , it calls back to your phone and connects to the other party. Thats how it works. That’s it..
Now follow these steps carefully :
- Get an free USA incoming number via IPKall and configure it to receive calls.
- Use an USA proxy or VPN to open the Google Voice invite activation link in your web-browser, if you tried earlier delete your cookies or use another browser.
- Login using your Google account and you will see activation wizard as below.
- You can search for numbers of your choice, after selecting a number click Continue, you will now need to enter a PIN code.
- Now, you will get prompted for a USA phone number where you can receive the call and confirm your account.
- Enter the US phone number you reserved in Step 1 and click Continue.
- Click Call Me Now and you should receive the call on your desktop softphone.

- “Accept” the call.
- Now activate the Keypad/Dialpad as you need to dial your confirmation code.
- Use the dialpad to enter the two digit confirmation code asked for in Step 7 above.
- Congratulations, your account should now be activated, now enjoy free calling in USA and Canada and low international calls.

Now you may plug in your microphone and enjoy free incoming and outgoing calls to any number in the states. Apart from that you may want to buy credits to call any international numbers – its pretty cheap.

Google Voice, Available Without Invitation
Jun 23rd
If you’re in the US, you can now use Google Voice without asking for an invitation. Three years after acquiring GrandCentral, Google finally makes the service widely available.
“A little over a year ago, we released an early preview of Google Voice, our web-based platform for managing your communications. We introduced one number to ring all your phones, voicemail that works like email, free calls and text messages to the U.S. and Canada, low-priced international calls and more—the only catch was you had to request and receive an invite to try it out. Today, after lots of testing and tweaking, we’re excited to open up Google Voice to the public, no invitation required,” explains Google.
Google Voice has a lot in common with Gmail. They’re both innovative communication services and they both help you manage your communication flow. Gmail has been available as an invitation-only service for about 3 years, just like Google Voice.
The next steps for Google Voice should be expanding the service’s availability outside US, integrating with Gizmo5 and becoming a VoIP service, integrating with Gmail and Google Talk.
CJ, a reader of this blog, already found some signs of a future integration:
“Late last year, Google Talk appeared as an option for Phone Type when adding a new phone in the Google Voice settings. I added my Google Talk account, but could not verify it. I just left it in there unverified because I knew at some point the day would come. At some point in the past few weeks, I was able to get my Gmail Voice Chat client to ring when attempting to verify the Google Talk account in my Google Voice account, but the call always immediately failed. Now in the past two or three days I’ve been able to answer the call and hear the prompt to enter the verification code, but there’s no way to send the verification digits. I tried generating DTMF tones and sending them through the microphone, but it doesn’t work. So close!”
{ Thanks, CJ. }
